1. Introduction Control of the Mediterranean fruit fly or medfly Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae); one of the world's most destructive insect, continues to rely on the use of broad-spectrum chemical insecticides in bait sprays [1]. While these chemical products are generally effective, they are controversial because of concerns for adverse effects on human health and non-target organisms, environmental pollution and development of insecticide resistance [2]. Therefore there is a need for alternative strategies such as bacterial entomopathogenic toxins: Bacillus thuringiensis.
